I began to paint fish as same as the still life plants, inspired by the exhibition catalogue “ALBRECHT DÜRER and the Animal and Plant Studies of the Renaissance by Fritz Koreny NYGS 1988. This book is my favorite still now.
Those works are the life size painting. To paint a fresh fish, I have to finish as faster as I can before it has lost the freshness. Once I began it, I had never to stop it until it had been completed, except the time to rest the fish in refrigerator. The eye loses the clearness and freshness faster than other parts, so I begin to drew and paint it at first. It is better to keep the temperature of the room low, so this was rather the study in winter when I couldn’t go out to paint landscape.
I don’t like to use a photograph, because I don’t like to copy it, because completely to copy a photograph is no other than completely to give up the interpretation and invention to draw and paint, expression.
